Facebook Connect makes iPhone a more social device
Facebook unveiled “Facebook Connect” for iPhone app developers about a week ago at South by Southwest. Now, apps one by one are adding the feature, some well, some not.
So far my favorite use of Facebook Connect is in Scrabble by EA. I started games with Facebook friends from my iPhone and the web, picked up and played the games on both devices and it was all instantly synchronized. To make it even cooler, my player icon in a game shows an iPhone icon rather than a Facebook “F” icon.
- Other apps I have that have added the feature: iBowl (pretty good use, but wish I could filter my Facebook list by iPhone owners), AgencyWars (has no Facebook app, so only iPhone-toting friends will play), Live Poker by Zynga (connected with Facebook long before these other apps) and Scramble (though I cannot find my Facebook games on my iPhone).
- Other apps that I think should add Facebook Connect: Fwix (local news reader), Amazon Kindle (see what friends are reading), Gigotron (LA music shows app), Oregon Trail (re-play score would go way up if I could race my Facebook friends to Oregon), Monopoly (another app that would I would play more often if I could play Facebook friends) and Sneezies (amazing game, would be even better if you could play against friends).
Other news on Facebook Connect from around the web: Scrabble Connected for iPhone Connects to Facebook, Facebook Connect comes to the iPhone and iPod Touch, Facebook Connect for iPhone; the next big thing?, Mobile social network Limbo connects to Facebook through mobile app, Facebook Friends the iPhone, Apps Will Now Connect and Facebook’s Dave Morin On The Search for a More Social Web; Connect Comes To The iPhone.
