Analysts expect little mobile progress in 2009′s economic slump
A new, third Apple iPhone is rumored for a summer release, the Palm Pre is on its way, more phones will be released running Google’s Android and Microsoft, Dell and other companies are all working on new phones and operating systems. But, two research firms predict a downturn for the mobile industry this year.
Dean Bubley says that people in the mobile industry are not pessimitic enough about this year. “Generally in a recession, people like “cheap luxuries” (pizza delivery does well, for example). I’m not sure that top-end phones and ongoing data plans fit into that category,” Bubley writes.
And ABI Research wrote up a report saying lots of things will not happen in 2009, given the economic recession. The research firm predicts that this year mobile marketing will not hit the big time, IPTV will not replace broadcast TV, but mobile internet will continue powering ahead.
Now it’s time for you all to share what you expect will or will not happen in 2009′s mobile industry.
